Salvation

The Gospel of Christ

Jesus told His disciples in Mark 16:15 to go into all the world and “preach the gospel” to every creature. The apostle Paul later stated in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.”

Exactly what it is the gospel? The word “gospel” means good news. It is simply the good news of Jesus Christ. The gospel is good news to the sinful man because of who Jesus Christ is and what He has done.

He was miraculously born of a virgin.

Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign;

Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son,

and shall call his name Immanuel.”

He is the sinless, Son of God.

Hebrews 4:14, “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”

He died on the cross and made a blood atonement for the sin of the world.

1 Peter 1:18, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”

He victoriously resurrected to life three days after His crucifixion.

Ephesians 1:18, “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us- ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places.”

He is soon returning to receive those who have put their trust in Him.

John 14:3, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

It is faith in this gospel of Christ for which man has the hope to be saved. Acts 16:31 says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” What does it mean to be saved?

It means that every sin is forgiven and buried in the grave of God’s forgetfulness.

It means that Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit has come to live in you.

It means when life has ended you’re going to heaven to live eternally with Jesus.

Are you saved? Have you put your faith in Jesus Christ alone for the salvation of your soul? It is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that allows us to experience this wonderful grace of Jesus. Let us explain.

1. You must understand that everyone is a sinner, and the penalty of sin is death.
Yes, everyone. Even on our best day we fall short of perfection. The problem with sin is that it separates us from God, and it brings a penalty that no man can change. Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

2. Religion and good works cannot pay for your sin.
Religion and its systems may seem logical, but it cannot bridge the gap created by our sin. Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God: not of works, let any man should boast.”

3. Jesus Christ died and rose again to pay your price for sin. This is how much God loves you.
Jesus Christ willingly became the payment. It was the only option. The sinless Son of God was the only hope for sinful man. What great love God has for mankind.

John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

4. Believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven and receive Him as your personal Savior.
Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Jesus Christ is not a way; He is the way. There is no other means by which a person can be saved outside of a personal relationship with Jesus. Romans 10:9, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

What a promise! Are you ready to receive that promise?

You can make that decision right now by praying something in your heart like this:

Dear Jesus,
I know that I am a sinner and cannot get myself to heaven on my own. I confess you are the Son of God and that you died, were buried, and rose again from the dead. I trust in you now to give me your free gift of eternal life. I place my faith in you to save me from hell.
In Jesus' Name, amen!
